Evergreen Brick Works Celebrates Earth Day with Drop, Swap & Shop Event

On April 17, 2016, celebrate Earth Day by embracing the sharing economy and encouraging people to recycle & re-use at Evergreen Brick Works’ first Drop, Swap & Shop Event! Drop unwanted electronics, Swap for new treasures and Shop at the Etsy Maker’s Market full of items you can’t find anywhere else. Swapping items is a fantastic way to help reduce our impact as consumers on the environment and it is totally wallet-friendly too!

Date: April 17, 2016

Time: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m

Location: Evergreen Brick Works, 550 Bayview Avenue, Toronto

Admission: $2

While clothing swaps have been a staple at the Evergreen Brick Works since 2013, this event promises to be bigger and better than ever with a giant swap mall, an electronics drop and an Etsy Makers Market. In addition, Evergreen Brick Works has teamed up with The Toronto Tool Library to create the ultimate Swap Mall. The event is also generously supported by Recycle Your Electronics who will be on site facilitating an electronics drop-off that allows you to get rid of unused electronics in a safe and eco-focused fashion.

Items that will be available to swap are: baby supplies & clothes, men's & women's clothes & accessories, housewares & art, media/entertainment and sports & recreation.

With the growing popularity of apps like Bunz and Uber, Torontonians are really beginning to embrace the spirit and excitement of the sharing economy. This is exactly the kind of event Torontonians have been waiting for!
— Ashlee Cooper, Evergreen Brick Works project manager.

How the swap works: For each item you drop off you will be given one swap ticket in return. Each item dropped has equal value. For example, if you bring ten clothing items, two casserole pots, two vinyl records and one framed art piece, you will get 15 swap tickets in return. You will then be able to swap for 15 separate items you find in the swap mall. You can bring no more than 25 items to donate. All items must be clean, functional, and gently used.

But it’s not just a swap for clothes! People can also Shop the Etsy Makers Market for one of a kind treasures, eat delicious food from the Container Market, and even rock out to Burton Cumming’s guitarist Tim Bovaconti as they show off their finds or listen to a panel discussion on the importance of the sharing economy.

Although, you are able to bring in items for the swap the day of the event, swap participants are strongly encouraged to skip the rush and drop off items at the Young Welcome Centre Welcome Desk ahead of time at Evergreen Brick Works.
