Vegan Pizza Bagels - 6 MUST-TRY Topping Combos

As long as pizza’s on a bagel, you can eat pizza anytime!

This is my take on this popular 90’s classic snack - elevated and made vegan. This recipe is super simple to make, totally customizable, and kid-friendly too!

I had so much fun creating these Vegan Pizza Bagels! They are easy to prepare and would be perfect for a quick snack or meal on days when you’re short on time.

If you follow me on Instagram, you will know that it’s no secret that pizza is one of my favouite foods. I had a lot of fun creating these pizza bagels and the 6 topping combinations that I put together were absolutely delicious. Meals like these are a wonderful opportunity to get creative and inspired in the kitchen - for adults and kids alike!

To make these pizza bagels, I used Organic Sesame Sunflower Bagels from Silverhills Bakery. I added a base of Otamot’s Organic Essential Sauce to each half and then topped them with dairy-free cheese and the different topping combinations which I’ve listed in full detail below.

Dairy-free cheeses have come a very long way and are more accessible than they’ve ever been! Most North American grocery stores usually stock at least 1-2 brands. For these pizza bagels, I used Daiya’s new Pepperjack Style Cutting Board Shreds which is commonly available and melts really nicely. I also used local-Toronto artisanal aged soft vegan cheeses from Culcherd, specifically their Sharp & Smoky and Herb & Garlic cheeses.

6 MUST-TRY PIZZA BAGEL TOPPING COMBOS:

HAWAIIAN - Pineapple, Coconut Bacon + Dairy-Free Shredded Cheese

MARGHERITA - Heirloom Tomatoes, Fresh Basil + Soft Vegan Cheese

MUSHROOM + SAUSAGE - Vegan Sausage, Mushrooms, Red Pepper Flakes + Dairy-Free Shredded Cheese

CLASSIC VEGGIE - Sweet Peppers, Red Onion, Tomatoes, Mushrooms + Dairy-Free Shredded Cheese

THREE CHEESE - Use any combination of your favourite vegan cheeses. I used Sharp & Smoky Soft Vegan Cheese, Herb & Garlic Soft Vegan Cheese + Pepperjack Style Vegan Cheese Shreds

PEPPERONI + OLIVES - Vegan Sausage, Olives, Oregano (dried or fresh) + Dairy-Free Shredded Cheese

Getting to Know Otamot

I was gifted Otamot (tomato spelled backwards!) Certified Organic tomato sauces to try out. The line includes their Organic Essential Sauce, Organic Carrot Bolognese Sauce, and Spicy Organic Sauce. The team at Otamot even gifted me a limited edition jar with my name on it which is pictured below - how cute is that!?

What I love about Otamot is that their full line is vegan and their sauces are nutritionally rich with 10+ vegetables in each sauce, with no added sugar or preservatives. They’re #nutritiousanddelicious!

What I love about these sauces is that they are nutritionally rich with 10+ vegetables in each sauce, and no added sugar or preservatives. Otamot is Certified Organic, Vegan, Gluten-Free, and Whole30 Approved.

Otamot was founded by a dad who wanted to help his daughter eat healthier, which is something that we can all relate to! I’ve been so impressed by the thick and rich sauces that he created. Not only are they nutritious but, they’re delicious too!

All of their sauces are super versatile - you can use them as you would typically use tomato sauce for dishes like pizza and pasta while sneaking in the additional organic vegetables that have been included in each sauce. If you’re feeling adventurous, check out Otamot’s recipe for this Spicy Bloody Mary made using the Spicy Organic Sauce.

I recently shared this yummy bowl of spaghetti & meatless meatballs on Instagram which I made using Otamot’s Organic Essential Sauce tomato sauce and saved the steps in my Instagram stories here!

Vegan Pizza Bagels

INGREDIENTS (makes 6)

  • 3 bagels, sliced in half

  • 1 cup tomato sauce + extra for dipping

  • Vegan cheese shreds

  • Your choice of toppings - see my list of topping combinations above!

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line a baking tray with unbleached parchment paper.

  2. Place each bagel half on your prepared cookie sheet and spread tomato sauce on each.

  3. Sprinkle vegan cheese on top and add your toppings of choice. You’ll find 6 different topping combos listed above if you're looking for inspiration.

  4. Bake in the oven for 9-12 minutes until the cheese is melted and the bagels are heated through. Check the bagels around the 5-minute mark and keep an eye on them after that point to make sure they don’t burn as some ingredients will cook faster than others.

  5. Serve warm and with a small bowl of tomato sauce or pizza dipping sauce.
