Province Apothecary: small-batch organic beauty and facial treatments

After a life-long struggle with allergies and eczema, Province Apothecary founder Julie Clark, who has been dubbed as Toronto’s high priestess of Organic Beauty, was inspired to find a solution for her skin troubles. While working as a costume designer and stylist in New York City, she began crafting natural, organic beauty products in her spare time. In 2010 Julie left NYC to study Aromatherapy, Holistic Health and Esthetics in Toronto where she formed the foundation of her skincare expertise, experimenting with raw materials and natural ingredients.

Province Apothecary developed out of Julie's commitment to innovation, sustainability, and small-batch skin care of the highest quality. As a certified holistic esthetician and aromatherapist, Julie's mission is to produce the best skincare products using only high quality, certified organic, biodynamic and wildcrafted ingredients sourced from each Canadian provinces.

treatments

The Province Apothecary shop and workshop is located in Toronto's Dundas West. The team of Holistic Aestheticians offer organic aromatherapy facial treatments, brow and lash treatments, and custom perfume blending. I recently visited Julie for 'The Custom Organic Facial' and it was divine. My treatment began with a full skin analysis, followed by a gentle cleanse, a hydrating and toning steam with hot towels, a stimulating and lymphatic drainage facial massage, thorough extraction (if needed), an individualized mask treatment using super foods and active ingredient. My treatment ended with a relaxing and hydrating aromatherapy neck and shoulder massage using a custom-blended body serum with the finest organic ingredients.

workshops

Julie offers private workshops where participants can make their own take-home product at Province Apothecary. There is a Perfume Blending Workshop all about the art of perfuming and an Aromatherapy For The Body Workshop where Julie shares first-hand on how she developed and created her small-batch line and she speaks to key ingredients and scents that are in-season.

the products

The Province Apothecary line of skin care and fragrances can be found at their new Dundas West location, and locally at places like Urban Outfitters and Whole Foods among other wonderful shops throughout Canada and the United States. And of course, everything can also be ordered online

What I love about these products is that they are made from the highest quality certified organic, biodynamic and wildcrafted ingredients. Province Apothecary's products also have multiple formal certifications including: Proudly Canadian, Certified Vegan, Cruelty-Free and Green Business Certified. I only share products that I use and that are made with the highest integrity. Province Apothecary products are always free from: petroleum, parabens, synthetic fragrances and ingredients, endocrine disruptors, carcinogens, dyes, alcohol, solvents, pesticides, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), palm oil or derivatives, cosmetic grade ingredients and toxins of any kind. These are ingredients that I look out for when purchasing skincare products because everything that we put on our skin is absorbed through our pores. This is why it is so important to be mindful of the ingredients that are used in products that we put on our skin because they ultimately end up inside of our bodies.

This morning I used the Province Apothecary Regenerating + Stimulating Exfoliator with lavender and green tea, followed by their Detoxifying + Clarifying Clay Mask with glacial clay and maple syrup (both pictured below). My skin is clear, soft and absolutely glowing!

If you're in the Toronto area I highly reccomend checking out this local gem. All of the staff are lovely and the space is tranquil and beautiful. I cannot wait until my next visit!
