Choices Organic Café: We are the Sum of our Choices

Today I’m kicking off my new Travel Guide  with Choices Organic Café which has 3 locations across sunny Southern Florida. I had the wonderful opportunity of visiting 2 of their 3 restaurant locations during my trip this past February. If you’re in the Miami or Coral Gables area and looking for a fresh, made-to-order meal, then look no further than Choices Café. I had the chance to sit down with Choices President Lori Zito to learn about the company and their mission in providing healthy, organic, vegan food.

The Cuevas brothers have set the tone by placing ethics higher than profit through their decision to use organic ingredients because they believe their clients and their health are worth it.  Not only do they support local but they also run their business as ethically as possible, using compostable and plant-based containers and utensils and by making the smallest footprint as possible.  Photo courtesy of Choices Organic Café.

Choices Café was founded in 2011 satisfying a large void in the Miami area for vegan restaurants. These two long-time vegan enthusiasts and brothers, Alex and Jorge Cuevas, left their corporate jobs and set out to establish the restaurant serving 100% plant-based food, with a goal to kick the vegan movement in Southern Florida into full gear by creating exceptional meals  showcasing how delicious plant-strong meals can be. Their mission is to inspire compassionate choices by serving satisfying, healthy and organic plant-based options prepared with love for people, animals and the planet.

Choices Café is literally designed to provide choices and lead by example by providing patrons with tasty meals that also happen to be vegan and cruelty-free. The Cuevas brothers took a creative and holistic approach in creating their menu by including plant-based versions of popular dishes, many with a Latin flare.

Choices Café President Lori told me how she has seen the vegan community grow since the launch of Choices and that she has had customers tell her that they have gone vegan or have been incorporating more meatless meals as a direct influence of Choices Café.

You cannot go wrong with any of the food choices at the Café. The menu has loads of drool-worthy options including yummy daily breakfast items, salads, wraps, bowls, cold-pressed juices and gluten free desserts. Juices and smoothies are served all day and they even serve weekend brunch with the option to make your own pancakes!

What I ate:

I had to visit Choices twice because just once was not enough. During my first visit  I tried the Mental Lentil and La Pixsa. On my second visit I had the Geniroll Lentil.

Choices truly supports local and showcases local products like the BadAss Power Cookie. I tried my first BadAss Power Cookie at Choices, which was created by the Miami local Bad Ass Vegan himself, John Lewis who is a nationally certified fitness trainer and vegan. I also met with John Lewis at Choices Café in Coral Gables.

Everything I tried did not disappoint. It is no wonder that Choices has been recognized for various awards of distinction including New Miami Times Best Vegan Restaurant in 2012 and Travel & Leisure Top 20 Vegetarian Restaurants in the Country in 2013, to name a few. Choices is a vegan paradise, with menu offerings that appeals to vegans and non-vegans alike.

Special thank you to Lori Zito and Choices Organic Café for their time and for sharing their recipe! Follow these links for website and locations
